Science - investigating the effects of the sun

As part of our Light and Dark topic we have been exploring shadows and learning about the power of the sun.
We set up an investigation to see what effect the sun’s rays have on coloured paper and we were amazed by its strength.

Can you explain why we were left with brighter coloured shapes when we removed the black pieces of paper?
