Diwali and the story of Rama and Sita
We have been learning about the Hindu festival of Diwali which is also known as The Festival of Light. We discovered that Hindu's make Rangoli patterns on the floor of their homes, light candles in Diya lamps, give gifts to each other, have a special meal with their family and honour the goddess Lakshmi. The festival also celebrates a Hindu Diwali legend; the story of the return of Rama and Sita to Rama’s kingdom after fourteen years of living away from their home. The children have been listening to the story and using puppets to retell the story as well as some children dressing up as Sita.
