Now I don't want to jinx things but last night was the best, first night I have ever experienced on a Residential. All the children settled at a very reasonable time and slept throughout the night. They awoke this morning and were very eager to clean their bedrooms in time for room inspection; this was not due to happen until 9:00am!!
Breakfast was very civilised and several bowls of cereal and rounds of toast being consumed, before the daily activity commenced.
All groups headed off in the direction of Rhossili, to Worm's Head, the furthest westerly point of the Gower Peninsula.
Mine and Mrs Sellers group arrived first and headed off at a very brisk pace, though not quite as brisk as the breeze, with Mis O'Sullivan's group hot on our tails. After a carefully traversing down the cliff, all groups arrived to have a great time exploring the rock pools. The children absolutely loved it. All four groups took slightly different paths to slowly get across the tidal causeway finding so many different forms of crustaceans, jelly fish, a fish called 'Jeremy' who was off to Germany (!), anemones and at the end of the day some of Mr Fane's group chose to join them, in the rockpools, adding to the wildlife in this amazing habitat.
Then it was then time for lunch on the Inner Head. To the delight of all the children, they had an amazing view of seals.
Following lunch, 3 groups took the steep route up to the top of the Inner Head but Mr O'Malley's group took on the challenge of walking round the island, and headed for the Middle Head, which features a collapsed sea cave which is known as the Devil's Bridge. It was not easy walk but they managed to get all the way there. That is an amazing achievement!
The children have now got very full stomachs having eaten spaghetti bolognaise, garlic bread, salad sticks followed by apple crumble and cream. The evening activity of an outdoor quiz whilst running round the grounds is about to start.
Let's hope for another successful bedtime/ sleep like last night.
