Family Types

 

  • An extended family is a family that extends beyond the nuclear family of parents and their children to include aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins or other relatives, all living nearby or in the same household.

 

  • A nuclear family (also known as an elementary family, atomic family, or conjugal family) is a term for a family group consisting of parents and their children (one or more), typically living in one home residence.

 

  • A blended family is a family that consists of two adults, the child or children that they have had together, and one or more children that they have had with previous partners: Single-parent families and blended families now outnumber traditional families.

 

  • A single parent is someone who is unmarried, widowed, or divorced and not remarried. The single-parent household can be headed by a mother, a father, a grandparent, an uncle, or aunt
     
  • A childless family usually involves a couple that does not have any children. This could be by choice or for other reasons.

 

  • A stepfamily is formed when one or both adults in a new committed relationship bring with them a child or children from a previous relationship.

 

  • A grandparent family is a family with grandchildren and no parents present in the intervening generation.

 

  • Step-siblings are children born of two different families who have been joined by marriage.

 

  • A person's brother or sister who has one parent in common.

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Smeds and the Smoos.

An out-of-this-world story of friendship. The Smeds (who are red) never mix with the Smoos (who are blue). So when a young Smed and Smoo fall in love, their families strongly disapprove. But peace is restored and love conquers all in this happiest of love stories. There's even a gorgeous purple baby to celebrate!
