Year 5

Home Learning

Thanks for visiting the Class 5 Webpage. Although most of the home learning tasks over the coming weeks will be set via SeeSaw, I have set up the links and folders below to enable you to find extra learning opportunities and sometimes resources to support you in completing your SeeSaw tasks. I will keep adding to these folders and links and direct you to resources via SeeSaw.

Term 3

This term in Class 5 we are studying The Power of the Earth as our Geography topic. We will be learning about plate tectonics, volcanoes and earthquakes. We are finding out about the Solar System and Space in our science topic and have been enjoying reading Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick in Literacy. We have a big unit of work on fractions in maths which is always a lot of fun! We have begun our swimming sessions at Bloxham and are practising our tennis skills in PE.

Congratulations to the whole class for their brilliant performances of Sleeping Beauty - The Ugly Truth just before Christmas. Everyone worked together brilliantly to rehearse and put on the show, which was a great success. Take a look at some photos from the play in our gallery below.

Term 1

We have had a busy and brilliant first term in Class 5. In our topic work we have been learning all about the Maya culture of Central America, finding out about their beliefs, way of life, art and writing. We have designed our own Maya glyph blocks in art and done some Mayan inspired weaving. We have done some fantastic literacy work with work based on a great story called the The Tear Thief, a video called The Ridge and some research and writing about the Mayan city of Chichen Itza.

In PE, we have been working on the importance of communication through our new My Personal Best programme, applying our communication skills to improving our passing in Tag Rugby and our team work in Gymnastics.

We have learnt about reversible and irreversible changes to materials in science and done some great investigating.

Our last week of Term 1 was Multicultural week. Have a look at some of the things we have been up to this term in our 'Gallery' section below and check back soon for more updates.
