Sutton Courtenay Environmental Education Centre

We had a fantastic time at Sutton Courtenay Environmental Education Centre. The day began with a river exploration. The children had to measure the width, depth, speed and temperature of the stream before they collected kick samples of invertebrates found in a fresh water stream. Kick sampling involved one child holding the net on the floor of the stream whilst the other stood in front of the net and shuffled their fit in the stones!

In the afternoon, they engaged in pond dipping and were able to compare the different types, and amounts of invertebrates that could be found in a pond compared to the stream. They discussed why this was the case.
