Hello everyone & welcome to the Dr Radcliffe’s Year 6 blog!!!

Over the first 2 weeks of term, Class 6 have been very busy with lots of sport, assessments, lessons & more!

This term we’ve been learning about Classification in Science, and learning about the Linnaean System. This involves grouping animals into different groups including mammals, amphibians & birds.

We have also been looking at Classical Greece (510 – 323 BC) and its culture, sport & cities.

Did you know that Sparta had 2 kings, one stayed and looked after the city and one went to war?

Did you also know that 4 major sporting events rotated around Classical Greece, called: the Nemean Games in Nemea, the Isthmian Games in Corinth, the Pythian Games in Delphi, and of course the infamous Olympic Games held in Olympia.

In PE we have recently been doing basketball skills, such as dribbling, passing and scoring baskets; we have also been playing frounders (football/rounders) and fetball (netball with no positions).

This week the class have been super busy with all types of assessments, including English, Spelling, Maths and Science tests.

We have all been doing very well indeed, with most of the class meeting or even exceeding our Year 6 standards already!

We also did our first whole class Circle Time last week in which we were very successful with all our discussions and debates!

At the moment Class 6 are occupied making information pages for Greek Gods, Goddesses & Demigods like Perseus, Heracles (most commonly known by his Roman name Hercules) Bellerophon, Jason (captain of the Argonauts who sought out the Golden Fleece) & Achilles, the great warrior of Troy.

We hope that you really enjoyed this account of Year 6’s first two weeks of Term 1 & the whole class hope you have a great weekend!

Yours sincerely, Sarah & Eli :0)
