Under 10s Kwik Cricket Finals
On 13th July, the Class 5 boys cricket team travelled to the impressive surroundings of Radley College, near Abingdon, for the County Kwik Cricket finals. They opened with a match against Bishop Loveday. A great team performance led to a well earned victory to get the side off to a positive start.
The second match, against The Batt School, saw an excellent batting performance and a captain’s innings by Alex helped the team to a comfortable second win. Our third game was a tight match, with Dr Radcliffe’s bowling a bit erratically and gifting too many runs to the opposition. Our batting and running between the wickets wasn't quite as sharp in the third match and frustratingly we lost narrowly.
After a break, we began our final match in determined mood, knowing that a victory was needed to give us a chance of reaching the semi-finals. Rediscovering our form with the bat – Charlie and Kyle especially hitting a flurry of boundaries – meant that we won our group and qualified for the semi-final.
A strong bowling performance against Stonesfield in the semi-final meant we had a great chance as we went into bat. Some great shots were mixed in with quite a few lost wickets, so it was a very tight match overall. Unfortunately, we ended up missing out on the final by a single run, as the team were left to wonder what might have been.
It was a great team performance, in which everyone played their part, and an excellent event in beautiful surroundings. The Year 5 team will hope to be back at the finals next year, when they will hope to go one better. Well done to everyone.
