School Support & Link Worker

School Support: Home School Community Link Worker - Nikki Bell

Warriner Partnership

Why have a Home School Community Link Worker?

Nikki will work to develop positive home-school relationships and will work closely with both families and schools to help ensure that each child has the opportunity to fulfil their potential. The service is intended to complement the work of other services.

What does a Home School Link Worker do?

Here are some of the tasks and responsibilities of a home school community link worker:

  • Act as a link between home and school including making home visits or meeting at other suitable locations.
  • Offer a range of services to children and families requiring support and information.
  • Help children and families to increase school attendance and minimise absences.
  • Work with children on a 1:1 or small group basis.
  • Talk with and support children in school and encourage them, through direct contact, to be positive about their future.
  • Support parents / carers to develop and maintain a positive relationship with the school.

A Home-School Link service will work with individual children and families/carers at an early stage of concern. The service is aimed at delivering early practical support in the community and at school.

Home-School Link Workers are here to support children and families/carers with a wide range of issues and concerns. A few examples have been listed below:
  • Attendance
  • Lack of confidence and low self-esteem
  • Relationships
  • Home circumstances
  • Home-School relationship

We know children achieve more when both home and school are working in partnership to support a child's development. The aim of the Home-School Community Link Worker is to help support and develop that partnership.
