Sports (including Sports Premium)

At Dr Radcliffe's, we recognise the vital importance of promoting physical activity and participation in school sport for all children. As well as increasing children's health and well-being at school, it also helps children to develop habits and interests which will help them to remain as active and healthy individuals as they grow older.

In addition, school sport has been shown to help children to develop their confidence, leadership and social skills and is strongly linked to improved academic performance.

Gold School Games Mark

Each year, schools are able to apply for a School Games mark, which recognises high levels of pupil participation in school sports. We have, over recent years, consistently achieved the Gold School Games Mark, including in 23/24 and 24/25. Well done to all children and staff involved.

This award reflects our busy and varied programme of events both in school (Level 1 events) and in competitions where the children participate in fixtures and festivals with other schools (Level 2 events). These events are run through the North Oxfordshire School Sports Partnership, our membership of which we finance with the School Sports Premium Funding. The award also recognises the high level of participation of the children in extra-curricular clubs and the school's work on raising activity levels across the school day.

The School Games events include competitions in sports such as tag rugby, netball, football and hockey as well as inclusion festivals which target children who would otherwise be less likely to look for opportunities to take part in sport.
