12 children from Years 3-6 joined pupils from Edward Feild's Primary School, to take part in a Science afternoon being run by Lynn Daley who works for Harcourt Arboretum. The theme of the afternoon was 'Stem Stories and Trunk Tales'. The children began by having a hands-on experience of handling the biggest seed in the world ('Coco de mer' ) and it's leaves, as well as tree varieties they were more familiar with. The children then were given a sample of wood (all from the same tree) which they had to age by counting the rings (answers differed significantly!) Finally, they created their own 'tree story' of people who were important in their life.
