A Solar System Model

Class 5 went outside to try to get a sense of the scale of the solar system. We used a ball to represent the sun and on the same scale found out that the Earth was the size of a peppercorn and was 26 paces away. In the first picture Poppy is representing Mars. She has a piece of Blutac, the size of a pinhead, to show the relative size of Mars compared to the sun. You can just about see the sun being held up over by the hedge outside our classroom.

By the time we had paced out where Jupiter (Lottie) would be we had crossed the playground and had reached the far side of the field by the time we got to Saturn's (Talitha's) location. After that we ran out of room...........
